At Alfrey & Pruitt Counseling, our work is rooted in connection—connection to our clients, to families, and to the broader community we’re part of every day.
Recently, our team stepped outside the therapy room and into that community in a different way. Through our Adopt-A-Road commitment, we spent time cleaning up our designated stretch of roadway here in Grand Island. It was simple work—trash bags, gloves, and a few hours together—but it reflects something deeper about how we approach care.
Community Is Part of Mental Health
Mental health doesn’t exist in isolation. The environments we live in, the spaces we share, and the sense of pride we feel in our community all play a role in overall well-being.
Taking care of our surroundings is one small, tangible way to contribute to that.
It’s also a reminder that:
- Care isn’t limited to clinical settings
- Healing happens in connection, not just in sessions
- Showing up matters, even in small ways
A Commitment Since 2024
Since beginning our Adopt-A-Road commitment in 2024, this has become a meaningful way for our team to give back to the Grand Island community.
Our adopted section—Faidley Road between Highway 281 and North Road—was where it all started. During our first cleanup, our crew came together, filled about half a dozen bags of trash, and ended the day with something simple but meaningful: time together and a shared sense of accomplishment (and pizza to celebrate).
What started as a single cleanup has grown into something we now look forward to—an ongoing commitment to showing up for our community in a tangible way.
Modeling What We Encourage
In therapy, we often talk about values—about aligning actions with what matters most. This is one of the ways we practice that ourselves.
We talk with clients about:
- Taking meaningful action
- Building a sense of agency
- Contributing to something larger than themselves
This is a way for us to live those same principles.
A Collective Effort
What continues to make these days meaningful is the mix of people involved—our team and community members working side by side. It’s not about perfection or scale. It’s about participation.
Stronger communities aren’t built by big moments alone. They’re built by consistent, small acts of care.
Why It Matters to Us
As a counseling practice, we hold ourselves to standards that go beyond clinical care—professionalism, ethical responsibility, and respect for the people and communities we serve.
Community engagement is one extension of that commitment.
💛 Looking Ahead
We’ll continue to show up—both in the therapy room and outside of it.
Because mental health is not just about individual healing—it’s about creating environments where people can feel safe, supported, and connected.
And sometimes, that starts with something as simple as keeping a road #litterfree ✨
