Outpatient Mental Health Therapist (1099 Contractor)

Grand Island, NE 68803 | In-Person

Are you an independent clinician looking for a well-run practice where you can focus on clinical work—without having to build everything from scratch?

Alfrey & Pruitt Counseling is a growing outpatient mental health agency seeking skilled mental health and/or substance use clinicians to join our practice as independent contractors (1099). We provide strong referral flow, administrative infrastructure, and a professional, high-standard clinical environment—while expecting clinicians to operate with autonomy, accountability, and ethical integrity.

This role is best suited for clinicians who value clinical independence within clear structure, want control over their schedule, and prefer a practice that is organized, boundaried, and thoughtfully managed.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking clinicians interested in specializing in areas such as:

  • Substance Use and Addiction

  • Child, Adolescent, and Family Therapy (including play-informed approaches)

  • Problematic Sexual Behaviors

  • Trauma-related and co-occurring conditions

  • Other outpatient mental health specialties aligned with your scope of practice

Role Overview: What Being a Clinician Here Looks Like

Clinicians at Alfrey & Pruitt Counseling operate as independent practitioners within a structured group practice, meaning:

  • You maintain responsibility for your license, scope of practice, CEUs, and professional judgment

  • You manage your own schedule and clinical caseload

  • You complete documentation accurately and on time, meeting payer and audit standards

  • You operate ethically, professionally, and with appropriate clinical boundaries

  • You communicate directly and professionally with leadership when issues arise

This is not an employee role. It is a professional collaboration.

What We Provide

  • Strong referral base with the ability to build a full caseload quickly

  • Administrative support for:

    • Billing coordination

    • Scheduling systems

    • Credentialing support

  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) system that is streamlined and clinician-friendly

  • Clear policies, procedures, and compliance standards

  • A professional work environment that values structure, ethics, and clinician sustainability

Our goal: reduce administrative chaos so clinicians can focus on quality care.

Contractor Responsibilities (Important)

Because this is a 1099 contractor position, clinicians are responsible for:

  • Managing their own taxes (including quarterly estimates)

  • Securing their own health insurance, retirement, and benefits

  • Obtaining supervision independently if required for licensure, or compensating the attending clinician providing supervision

  • Maintaining all licensure and legal compliance requirements

We are transparent about this from the start to ensure alignment and avoid confusion later.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Licensure

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field (required)

  • Hold or be eligible for Nebraska licensure:

    • PLMHP, LMHP, or LIMHP

    • PLCSW, LCSW, LICSW
    • PLADC or LADC (if specializing in substance use treatment)

Clinical Skills

  • Strong assessment and treatment planning skills

  • Ability to establish rapport and therapeutic alliance

  • Experience with or interest in group facilitation (when applicable)

  • Crisis assessment and intervention competence

  • Solid understanding of legal, ethical, and professional standards

  • Accurate, timely, and compliant documentation practices

  • Cultural competence and professional communication skills

Schedule & Compensation

  • Schedule: You set your own hours

  • Work Location: In-person, Grand Island, NE

  • Job Type: Contract (1099)

  • Caseload: Full-time availability preferred

Compensation Range:
$5,590.08 – $6,732.14 per month, depending on caseload and services provided

Who Thrives Here

This role is a strong fit for clinicians who:

  • Are self-directed and accountable

  • Appreciate structure, clarity, and professional standards

  • Want flexibility without sacrificing quality or ethics

  • Prefer a practice that holds boundaries—with clients and internally

This may not be a good fit for clinicians seeking:

  • Employee-style benefits or oversight

  • Informal documentation expectations

  • Loose boundaries or ambiguous roles

Interested clinicians are encouraged to apply with a resume and brief statement of clinical interests.
